Perth, Western Australia’s capital surrounded by Indian Ocean has so much to offer. Plan your holiday to see the Swan Valley vineyards and beautiful Rottnest Island and much more. Here’s a 5 day itinerary 🙂
Getting around
Its very difficult to go around by public transport. Everything is too far.I suggest that you rent a car. We rented from Thrifty (around 50 dollars a day) from Perth airport itself.Pick up and return is at the airport itself. Usually they give the car with full tank ; and you have to return with full tank; else they will cut money from your card later. It had road side assistance included. We did not take insurance ( another 200 $ + usually). If you trust your driving ; no need to take one :P.
Accommodation
We stayed at Coogee Beach resort in the outskirts of Perth ( budget hotel ; nothing fancy). There are a lot of such beach side resorts which provide basic amenities and amazing view!
Day 1: Two Rocks – Lancelin – Pinnacle
We went to Fremantle to book ferry for the next day to Rottnest Island.Booking in advance is always recommended. It gets booked real fast.
Drive towards Lancelin ; on the way take a detour to go to Two Rocks near Yanchep National park. At Lancelin Sand dunes ; there are sand dunes on one side and sea on another ; do go for sand boarding.
Drive further down to Pinnacle to watch sunset and take 1 KM trail through the Martian Landscape.
Day 2 : Rottnest Island
A must go if you visit Perth. It is ferry ride away from Perth . We took a package of Bike – Adventure Tour – Transfer to rottnest. We took 7.15 ferry in the morning and while coming back we booked 18.25 one.
We kept the Bike for whole day. You can go around the island via bike or island hopper bus.
Bike :
It’s a 22km trail ; personally we were exhausted after the whole trail because of the uphills and downhills.
So you can choose the points to go. “The basin” was the best. The basin is like a natural swimming pool in the sea.
Spot Quokkas!
Adventure tour :
This was seal watching and whale watching. Do check the season for whale watching though.
It’s a must do if season of whale migration is on. Check out our post on our picks for fun things to Rottnest Island here.
Day 3 : Swan Valley – Fremantle
It’s about wine tasting; honey tasting ; cheese tasting and chocolate tasting. We went to Margaret Chocolate Factory ; Mondo Nougat; Houghton ; the House of Honey.
Houghton had amazing wine and live country music.Catch the sunset at Fremantle Beach and go around to the Fremantle Night Market( Amazing food).
Day 4 : Caversham Wildlife park – Lesmurdie Falls
At Caversham ; you can feed the Kangaroos ; click photos with Koalas and see the Australian wildlife.
Visit Lesmurdie Falls is in Perth Hills area; Amazing view of Perth city at sunset. It has small hike trails.
Day 5 : Perth City
Go shopping near Raine Square shopping center.
Visit Elizabeth Quay and go towards Crawford Blue Boathouse. We spotted a Dolphin there at sunset. 🙂
Go to Kings park in the night for amazing views of Perth city.
Everywhere in perth there were a lot of flies ; so carry your insect spray. Have Fun!! J
