Getting There

Ticketing & Pricing

Like any other tourist attraction, it’s best to get the tickets online prior to your visit. The most popular option is the Open-Air Safari Tour. This is the basic tour, easy on pockets but we highly recommend the other ones that lets you get more up close to the animals. They offer a more intimate experience with behind-the-scenes access. Though expensive, they are definitely worth it. Booking tickets in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak summer months.

Things to Do at The Wilds

‘Trazan’y Ziplining through the Wilds – If you’re a thrill-seeker, zip across the wilds.

Lodge or Glamp Overnight – Want to make it a full getaway? The Wilds offers unique overnight stays, including luxury yurts and stays at Nomad Ridge. Waking up to the sounds of nature and breakfast in the wild? Yes, please!

Other activities : There are other more relaxed experiences like guided horseback rides and catch-and-release fishing options are also available. Tours that offer educational insights into how they protect endangered species and promote sustainability.

About The Wilds

It’s all about a good cause! In the 1970s, it was decided to convert this once coal-mined land in southeast Ohio into one of the world’s largest and innovative conservation centers. It’s conservation effort goes in threatened and endangered animal species as well as protecting local ecology, with about 100,000 visitors per year.

Why you should visit The Wilds?

  1. An experience like no other : Seeing giraffes stroll past your vehicle or a rhino taking a mud bath up close is a surreal experience!

2. Scenic : The rolling hills and expansive landscapes make you forget you’re in Ohio—it truly feels like a different world.

3. Overnight accommodations: Staying overnight in a yurt or cabin is a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t find at a traditional zoo.

What should you consider while booking the tour?

  1. Check the Weather: Since most activities are outdoors, bad weather can put a damper on your trip. Check the forecast before booking! Though there are winter tours available, we say : GO SUMMERS!

2. Carry your food: While there are a few dining options on-site, they are somewhat basic. Packing snacks is a good idea if you have dietary preferences.

3. Cost: If you are doing more than one activity, try to pair it up in advance and purchase the tickets. Even though the private safari is expensive, the option to not stick to the road but get down closer to the animals is definitely worth it.

What are you waiting for?

The Wilds is a fantastic destination for animal lovers, adventure seekers, and families looking for an unforgettable day trip. It combines the excitement of a safari with the charm of Midwestern hospitality. If you’re in the Columbus area, this is one attraction that absolutely deserves a spot on your travel bucket list! Happy Exploring! ❤
